When I'm asked which of my novels are my favorites, I reply, "The McComas Trilogy." The two main characters quickly took control of these stories and I watched the movie in my head and typed. I hope my readers feel the same about Keith and Flea.
'If Bullfrogs Had Wings' - This historical novel has been read by enough Boomers to become a hit. It's set in West Virginia in 1957 when family and friends were vital. Readers quickly relate and bond with Keith DeLong and best friend, John 'Flea' Summers, two normal teens growing up in a rugged coal-mining town. They make a major decision to spend summer vacation outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine instead of around a dark, dingy coalmine.
'Out of the Rough' - This sequel is set two years later and contains tragic and emotional events, causing Keith to fight against the odds to get their family out of the rough. We witness the acts of family, friendship, and mountain-grown determination bring one individual out of the darkness to grasp the rainbow of his dreams.
'A Golden Round' - Keith and Flea move fifteen years into their futures. They face challenges using learned wisdom and compassion during the rapidly-changing '60's & '70's. Two best friends leave a West Virginia coal town to pursue their careers. A Texas dairy farmer's life lessons and unexpected gifts set them on the right course. Will they apply Chet's teachings? Will fame or fortune shift them from their paths? Will they succeed? Keith and Flea know what they want, but will they be obedient to their desires?
Author's Note: You do not need to play or even like golf to enjoy these stories. I only use the game as a vehicle to move the story along. I do believe life is a lot like golf. I hope you will meet Keith and Flea, because you'll quickly call them friends. Thank you and keep smilin'....
